So Sony acquired Crunchyroll few days ago and those who are connoisseurs of anime and lovers of console gaming cannot stop talking about it. The deal concluded between AT&T and Sony after the US Justice department ratified the acquisition for a possible anti-trust issue. Crunchyroll, if you didn’t already knew, is an anime streaming service. It has huge content of anime from Japan and has millions of subscribers. Sony also owns Funimation which is another anime streaming service. There are reports that the anime streaming service can be included with a more expensive tier of Playstation Plus Plans. Super Mario Bros. Sealed Game Sold for a Ridiculous Amount.
I had just learnt to wrap my head around the idea that unopened copy of video games of yesteryears are considered collectibles and they go for crazy amounts–like thousands of dollars. It has been reported on Verge that some anonymous person paid a whopping $2 million for a never-opened copy of Super Mario Bros. The crazy thing is that the sale price broke the record that was set less than a month ago (Super Mario 64 had been auctioned for $1.56 million). However, this $2 million Super Mario Bros. sale has not been done through the auction route but has been sold through a platform called Rally, which has a…

Of Unicorns.
Honestly, I did not know what the hell Unicorns and Decacorns were until last year or may be a year before that. It is not really important when I exactly became aware of this term of honour in the start-up scene. A Unicorn is a start-up company in the tech sector that is valued at billion dollars (US) or more. And a decacorn is that start-up in the tech sector which is valued at ten billion dollars or more. Well, the valuation part is a little complicated. It is not necessary that the said Unicorn is making any money or not; it may as well be bleeding with losses. The…

Celebrities Will Have to be more careful in Brand endorsements.
The newly amended Consumer Protection Act contains penal provisions for the celebrity making a false claim while endorsing a product. The penalty ranges from few lakhs to even a few years stint in jail. Hopefully, this would lead to more due diligence from top celebrity endorsers while choosing the brand and product they vouch for–and the claims they are making in the advert. Heaven knows, Indian celebrities can be quite clumsy in choosing the product they endorse. They are in many instances poorly guided by their agents, often appear disinterested while promoting—and it is quite clear—they are only doing it for the dosh. From hair oil that claims to promote…

Audio Books I am listening to in April 2020.
Since I have gotten myself an audible account I have been keenly listening to them. It’s a lovely service, and a god-send for those who do not have the time to curl up with an actual book, or any reading device for that matter. Luckily, thus far, I have been reading lots of books on my Ipad as well as kindle–but I am happy to state that I have also listened to plenty of books on my audible account. Thus far I have accumulated 14 books on Audible and only five of them are unfinished–and I hope to complete at least three of them during the “lockdown.” So, without further…
